Job Description

TRI's Field Operations Team is responsible for working with engineering teams to enable, plan and execute vehicle-level testing on roads and tracks that provides data needed to develop our life-saving technologies. In this role, you will work to partner across the automated driving organization to build, test, and iterate on the software and hardware configuration that will enable future vehicle automation products at Toyota.
 
As the head of Automated Driving’s Field Operations, you will be working very closely with the Lead Field Operations Manager to handle the entire field operations program across all three TRI locations at the highest level. This includes, building and leading fleet operations initiatives and ensuring execution across the organization. We are looking for a leader and people foster to guide the delivery efforts of the fast growing field operations team. You should be personable, motivated and passionate about our purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Lead TRI automated vehicle Field Operations including, but not limited to, driver’s training, testing processes & procedures, budgeting, short and long term growth plans, hiring, regulatory compliance, and resource management.
  • Develop, implement, and constantly refine operating procedures.
  • Lead vehicle operation and safety training initiatives, including C-suite discussions to ensure policy alignment with larger Toyota organization.
  • Support training and awareness initiatives across Toyota Motor Company regarding Automated Driving Systems.
  • Own the maintenance and health of the TRI’s automated vehicle fleet.
  • Work with engineers to define testing objectives and success criterion.
  • Track and report on project progress, passionately drive corrective action as needed.
  • Lead engagement planning and kick off; mobilize and develop teams across multiple office and test track locations.
  • Own the culture, growth and dynamics of a fast paced organization that includes salaried, hourly and contract positions at 3-5 sites. This includes collaborating with staffing agencies, hiring, performance management, compensation, scheduling, and succession planning.
  • Represent TRI’s interest in business arrangements with testing suppliers and other test-related organizations of Toyota affiliates around the globe.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or PMP is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of fleet operations management experience, preferably in a fast-growth startup environment and/or autonomous vehicle industry.
  • Prior management experience in leading large and fast growing teams that are geographically dispersed.
  • Hands-on vehicle development experience.
  • Prefer knowledge of vehicle fleet operations.
  • Highly organized and communicative – able to interact effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Safety first mindset.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety and operational policies and procedures.
  • Prefer experience working in software development.
  • Experience working with proving ground/track operations.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and ability to work in high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and perform in an environment with ambiguous situations, rapidly changing priorities and meaningful deadlines.
  • Ability to diagnose group development needs, plan effective interventions and execute successful change efforts.
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems.
  • Problem solving – Ability to be inventive and “figure things out.”
  • Experience with Google tool suite, Jira, Confluence & Slack is desireable
  • Regular Travel to various TRI locations (25-30%) and some international travel may be required (1-2x per year).
