We are looking for experienced technical program managers who are passionate about developing and deploying technology that will improve the safety, accessibility, convenience, and efficiency of mobility solutions affecting millions of consumers. The program manager will work alongside experienced technical leaders from more than a dozen specialized engineering sub-teams to ensure overall coordination and delivery of individual subsystems and an integrated system. This includes synthesizing software and hardware integration project schedules, identifying and mitigating risks, and clearly communicating goals and status to project partners. The project spans numerous Toyota offices and time zones. Part of the job will be to keep all of the players coordinated on project progress and deadlines. These positions report to TRI’s Director of Automated Driving Programs. Some domestic travel required (<20%) with potential for occasional international travel (1-2x per year). Responsibilities Provide program management support for one to five engineering sub-team leaders, helping to develop team objectives, work plans, identify and manage risks, handle interdependencies between teams, track progress, drive issues to closure, report on key results, and seek assistance from outside the team when needed. Support a Scrum-based Agile development approach as appropriate for assigned sub-teams. This may include developing and managing user stories and tasks, managing backlogs, planning sprints, coordinating sprint demos, leading retrospectives and possibly fulfilling the role of a ScrumMaster. Lead special project task-forces formed to address special cross-team initiatives, such as development of new engineering infrastructure, resolving an emergent multi-functional challenge, coordinating a decision analysis, or planning an important product demonstration. Plan, facilitate and follow-up on various peer and cross-team meetings as needed. Coordinate with other program managers, product managers, systems engineers, software engineers, hardware engineers, researchers, suppliers, members of other Toyota divisions, and TRI’s executive team to ensure clear communication and efficient work flow. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years experience working as a program/project manager, ideally across with teams dispersed across the globe. PMI certification is a plus. Automotive product development experience highly desirable. Automated Driving Systems experience highly desirable. Familiarity in at least one of focus areas listed below is preferred (each is a planned region of responsibility for an individual PM) - Preferred locations are also listed for each role: 1 RATPAC : Risk-Aware Trajectory Planning and Control, Driver Monitoring, Prediction, Guardian System Integration - Location: 1st choice is Cambridge, 2nd is Ann Arbor and 3rd is HQ in Los Altos, CA 2 Perception : Object Detection, Identification & Tracking, Localization and Mapping, Machine Learning - Location: 1st choice is HQ in Los Altos, CA, 2nd is Ann Arbor 3 Demonstration & Milestone drive planning, coordinating large events with geographically dispersed teams, Japanese / cultural awareness (Scrum or embedded SW exp not as critical for this position) - Location: 1st choice is HQ in Los Altos, CA, 2nd is Ann Arbor Prefer experience with real-time software development in a continuous integration environment. Experience employing Agile/Lean concepts in product development. ScrumMaster certification is a plus. Organized with excellent written & verbal communication skills, good attention to detail, interpersonal skills and demonstrable success in engineering leadership roles. Ability to influence without authority, working with technical and multi-functional teams who do not report into this role to get things done. Thrives in ambiguity, setting own goals and effectively delivering to them in a very fast-changing environment. Experience with Google’s tool-suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Mail, Calendar, Drive, Hangouts, Groups), Jira, Confluence, Slack, in addition to tools and processes specific to one of the four focus area outlined above.
