PPG announces new mobility team to develop paints and coatings for autonomous vehicles

Paints and coatings manufacturer PPG has announced the appointment of Ranju Arya as senior business director of its new mobility team, leading the company’s efforts to develop and commercialise paint and coatings technologies for autonomous and electric vehicles.

The company is developing paints and coatings to improve the visibility of vehicles and infrastructure to the LiDAR sensors used in autonomous driving systems, as well as easy-to-clean coatings that help to prevent the obstruction of autonomous vehicle sensors.

Arya, who brings more than 20 years' experience in global business development and corporate strategy with PPG to the team, will play a key role in identifying new technologies and opportunities in this growing market.

Earlier this year, PPG announced that it would be the first paints and coatings manufacturer to join a partnership with the University of Michigan’s Mcity, which operates the world’s first purpose-built proving ground for testing autonomous and connected vehicles and technologies.
